DEO (Discipleship, Encounter, and Outreach)

Phases of DEO:
Phase 1: Discipleship Training in South Central Kansas (August-mid-September)
Training through study: rich and intensive teaching in Bible, knowing yourself and others, understanding the person and ministry of the Holy Spirit, dying to self/living for Christ, Evangelism and compassion in the post modem world, ministry in urban settings, cross cultural awareness, Anabaptist theology and heritage, developing your own personal gifts for ministry, understanding the church, cross cultural living, social issues. Training through Worship: worshiping through various music styles, cultures, disciplines, art, writing, both personal and corporate worship. Training through Community: developing spirituality rooted in the Body of Christ complete with problems, conflict, ministry engagement, and incredible teaching and works of God.
Phase 2: Encounter in Denver (Mid September-May)
Experience life in Denver with the team of 4-6 and a team leader. Volunteer service and outreach with a local church/ministry. Possible internships include, work with young adults, work in food bank/clothing bank/counseling center for people in poverty, intern with the DOOR program, homeless work, construction work, or work with low income family. In addition, a spiritual director will meet regularly with you to continue to help you develop what discipleship means in your life in the work that you are doing. You will also be involved in ministry with the local churches.
Phase 3: Outreach (June-July)
Back in your home congregation you will participate in a ministry internship with volunteer service and ministry in your congregation. Your mentor will walk through adjustment back to life in your home area with you. Your mentor is someone that you pick to be part of the deo experience with you. The mentor is from your home congregation and keeps in touch with you on a regular basis through all three phases. The mentor also helps you to establish your ministry plan back in your home congregation. You can also find part-time employment in your home community to start saving money for your next chapter in life.

Personal mentor from your home congregation to walk with you through the experience; Training taught through the Anabaptist tradition; Time of service in your home congregation; Spiritual director throughout Phase 2 to challenge you to discover how God is at work in each situation.
What will it cost me?
Your old relationship with Christ; Your comfort zone; $4,800--raised through support of family and friends.
