Discover Weeklong Program
Your group can come to one of our cities to experience the city and learn about it through:
- Volunteering at a variety of community agencies
- Staying at facilities in the city
- Participating in a network of service-learning opportunities
- Hearing a local perspective on the city
- Using public transportation (when available)
- Interacting with people of the city
- Reflecting on their experiences
Each DOOR city can accommodate up to 60 participants per week. Smaller groups are paired with other small groups to allow participants from different places and denominations to share in service. The summer is our busiest time, but we also take spring and fall break groups. All logistics are arranged. For more information explore individual city pages.
Groups arrive Sunday evening after supper and depart after lunch on Friday. Groups are divided into work and meal teams (4-6 participants plus an adult sponsor/leader). Each day features a service assignment between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. followed by afternoon free time, dinner and an evening session. On the final night, participants reflect together on what they have seen, felt and experienced for the week. In perhaps the most important time of the week, participants find themselves asking questions about their own calling to service as Christians. The $275 cost per participant for 2008 covers food, lodging, materials and administration.
