Each year the DOOR program recruits a number of summer staffers to help run our program. This is year there are positions available in all 6 DOOR cities, Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Hollywood, Miami, and San Antonio. Job Description For
DOOR Summer Staff
Each staff person serves with other DOOR summer staff to organize and carry out the DOOR Summer Program. This is intended to be a general description--duties can be shifted according to the skills and interests that each summer staff person brings to the program. The summer program can run from 8-13 weeks long depending on the city. Positions are full-time and paid.
Candidates for this position must meet the following qualifications:
Qualifications
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
- Interest in: serving others, learning about urban issues, group processing of experiences, working with middle and high school age youth.
- Respect for people from different backgrounds who may have very different beliefs.
- Open to working varied hours; evenings and early mornings.
- Applicants 21 years and older, should have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to drive large, loaded vans (up to 15-passenger) in city traffic (not all staff will be required to drive 15-passenger vans).
- Exhibit responsibility and maturity in peer relationships and in accepting work assignments.
- Be honest and open in communicating issues, whether personal or group related.
Job Description
Help facilitate service/learning experiences for youth groups that come to DOOR for a week at a time. This includes welcoming groups, befriending them, encouraging them as they have new and often shocking experiences, and helping them to enjoy and process the experiences of the week.
Orientation
All staff are expected to participate in the staff orientation week. This will include; First Aid training, getting acquainted with the metro area, meeting agency coordinators, DOOR policy, and getting ready to lead worship and reflection times.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Helping with meal preparation and grocery shopping as needed.
- Participating in, and helping to lead the group orientation, worship and reflection sessions.
- Driving and/or guiding groups to and from work sites. Introducing groups to work site coordinators.
- Working with DOOR groups at the different work sites. Assisting with leadership and oversight at work sites to provide continuity and insure that the experience and quality of work is satisfactory.
- Provide feedback, criticism, new ideas, etc. to help with the continued evaluation of the program.
