We're in between Spring and Summer seasons. Atlanta is in full bloom and it's inspired us to create our summer tshirts. All proceeds from Tshirt sales are deposited especially into our urban leadership development budget for scholarship and special programs. Our Beloved Community Council is made up of board members from each of our cities and oversees the program. We'll post the new design as soon as we stop tweaking it.

All good things must come to an end. We are coming to the end of our Spring Break season and we are coming to the end of interim directorship of Tim and David. However it is time to begin the search for the new Atlanta City Director. We will be accepting applications until May 15. Start date has been set for Aug. 1. For more details, see the entire job description at www.Doornetwork.org/employ.

This week – 29 volunteers from three different schools in VA, MI and TN. Our local food experiment seems to be working. We fed everyone well and it seemed like – at least some of – the high schoolers we hosted were ready to try something different for a week and consider their relationship to food in terms of their lives as Christians.
It led to some good conversations and new realizations. One for me was that even if you dump a whole can of baking powder in as you’re making brownies – that’s right, our volunteer read “3 cups” rather than “3 teaspoons” – the brownies actually turn out all right. They tasted a little salty, but you really couldn’t tell…who knew?
This was a result of what I think is a constant challenge when working with young people…how do we empower and give up control while still making sure things run smoothly and certain things (like reading carefully) don’t fall through the cracks?
The Spring's blooming plants bring a relevant time of remembering how some of our food begins, how our spring season begins in Atlanta – and thinking about the beginning of our Discover year. Hopefully, all of us can – in imitation of God’s Creation around us – continue to contribute to God’s work through DOOR Atlanta of theological and ethical seed planting, germination, cultivation and growth.
