DOOR helps volunteers, groups and individuals, see the face of God in the city.  For over 24 years we've been inviting you to "come and see." Come and see the amazing work God does in the ministries, the churches, the lives of communities.  Through weeks and weekends in the city, participants immerse themselves in urban life, serve in community-based ministries and reflect on the message of the Psalmist:  

"God is in the midst of the city"   Psalm 46:5

Your group will participate in coordinated trips designed to challenge your group to "see the face of God in the city" as you spend time listening, volunteering, and reflecting on your experiences.
For groups and individuals age 13 and up from all denominations.

Your group can come to one of our cities to experience the city:

• 
  Volunteering at a variety of community agencies
• Staying at facilities in the city
• Participating in a network of service-learning opportunities
• Hearing a local perspective on the city
• Using public transportation (when available)
• Interacting with people of the city
• Reflecting on their experiences

Each DOOR city can accommodate up to approx. 60-65 participants per week. Smaller groups are paired with other small groups to allow participants from different places and denominations to share in service. The summer is our busiest time, but we also take spring and fall break groups. All logistics are arranged. For more information explore individual city pages.

Groups arrive Sunday evening after supper and depart after lunch on Friday. Groups are divided into work and meal teams (4-6 participants plus an adult sponsor/leader). Each day features a service assignment between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. followed by afternoon free time, dinner and an evening session. On the final night, participants reflect together on what they have seen, felt and experienced for the week. In perhaps the most important time of the week, participants find themselves asking questions about their own calling to service as Christians. The $295 cost per participant covers food, lodging, materials and administration.  College groups participate at the special rate of $275 per person.
