DOOR Denver staff member Cindy Cervantes will conclude her service with DOOR at the end of December 2016.
Cervantes first worked for DOOR as a Discern summer staffer in 2010. In 2012 she was hired as the Denver Assistant City Director. Cervantes had a major impact on Denver’s Discover and Discern programs, increasing the focus on the connection between faith and social justice. During her years at DOOR, Cervantes impacted the lives of hundreds of youth who came to serve and learn in Denver through the weeklong Discover program. Cervantes shared her contagious faith, love for Denver, and passion for justice. She also implemented walking tours of the Westside focused on educating participants about gentrification.
Cervantes also had a major impact on the Discern program. Discern is a program that hires local young adults to serve as summer staff, develop leadership and professional skills, engage vocational discernment, and build faith and spiritual practices. Cervantes worked with 45 young adults, mostly from Denver, helping them explore their faith, discern their calling, and develop their leadership skills. She has also been instrumental in working with fellow City Directors to develop a Discern program curriculum now being used across the DOOR network.
DOOR thanks Cervantes for her years of dedicated service and looks forward to the ways we will continue to work together.
